The Goldschleger Eye Institute is the largest academic ophthalmic care center in Israel with a reputation for excellence in eye care, research and teaching.
As a local hospital, the Institute not only meets the basic eye care needs of the immediate geographic community of Sheba Medical Center, but serves the more than 80% of our patients who come from other parts of the country, from Palestinian cities and from neighboring Cyprus.
The Institute serves as a national referral center for eye injuries and fellowship-trained ophthalmologists educated in top European or North American centers serve all ophthalmic subspecialties. This allows for comprehensive interaction between a broad spectrum of subspecialties including experts in anterior segment and refractive surgery, Uveitis, infectious diseases, vitreoretinal surgery, medical Retina, Glaucoma, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Electrophysiology, plastics, Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and Ophthalmic Imaging.
The fruits of the research conducted by the Goldschleger Eye Institute have greatly improved eye care in Israel. The research activities, in collaboration with the Tel Aviv University, encompass everything from basic science research conducted at the laboratory bench to inquiries made at the clinic and in the community.
As one of the teaching hospitals for the Tel Aviv University Sackler School of Medicine, the Goldschleger Eye Institute provides education, training and specialized ophthalmic experience to medical students and residents from the faculty of medicine. Doctors from around the country come for specialized eye care instruction and research training. We also train students coming to learn new biotechnology instrumentation and gain practical experience.
