The Most Advanced Congenital Heart Center in the World

At the Chaim Sheba Medical Center

The largest in Israel and a global leader

The Congenital Heart Center at the Edmond and Lily Safra Children's Hospital at the Sheba Medical Center is among the most advanced worldwide. Tens of millions of dollars have been recently invested in order to provide patients with the best possible treatment in respect to both the quality of surgery and the range of surgical options, some of which are available only at Sheba.

The Center, first established in 1952, now is now headed by Senior Surgeons who have the most vast clinical experience in Israel. The Director of the Center is Dr. David Mishali and Prof. Alain Serraf, who joins us from his position as in Paris.

The Center is unique in its ability to conduct complex procedures in premature babies, children who are underweight and children with various types of congenital deformities that are difficult to operate on. In recent years, a new method developed for surgical heart procedures in children enables surgery to be performed via a small, aesthetic incision, which result in a higher success rate.

Correcting congenital heart deformities in babies and children mandates multidisciplinary teamwork with other hospital departments. Herein lies the crucial advantage of being the largest medical center in Israel. We work closely with all of the relevant departments and have all the necessary resources on site and at our disposal.

Our caring professional staff continually undergo courses and advanced training to stay abreast of the latest developments to integrate the most modern scientific achievements in heart surgery; keeping us in the forefront of pediatric heart surgery and the correction of congenital heart deformities.

The life of a one week old baby with a hypoplastic left heart syndrome (SGLS) was saved at our Congenital Heart Center thanks to the know-how and dedication of our staff who had the ability to perform this unusual procedure. Conducted in very few nations, the procedure is quite unique in that it uses hybrid technology and two methods for correcting the deformity. The procedure has two significant benefits; there is less pain post-operatively for the little patient, and the recovery time is considerably less.

A fully staffed team work with the family and child to ensure the highest level of professional care, starting with preoperative to post-operative rehabilitation.
